(reinstalled social pug)
-
Mihai,
I re-activated Social Pug and opening another topic since my original one was resolved.
Please see my original comment below
This happens on all posts. I click the pin button, the Pinterest window opens, I select an image, a new window opens so I can select a board, but when I click the red save button next to the board, the window closes and the pin is not saved.
The “pin it” button over the images works fine.
Thanks!

Hey @danfsullivan,
I’ve just checked Social Pug’s Pinterest button and I’ve been able to save the post with no issues. Here’s the saved pin: https://www.pinterest.com/pin/447193437998429909/
On my end it seems to be working fine.
I can’t say why it behaves the way it does on your end, but I’d recommend doing the following, just to see if it helps. Log out of your Pinterest account, delete your browser cache (here you can find more details on this: https://www.refreshyourcache.com/en/home/) and then log back into Pinterest.
Also, I’d recommend checking your website from another device. Just to see if something changes.
Let me know how it goes.
All the best,
MihaiHi Mihai,
OK, I did the following:
1) started a chrome incognito window, logged in to pinterest, tried to save pin, it failed
2) started a firefox incognito window, logged in to pinterest, tried to save pin, it failed
3) pinned from another pinterest account logged in on firefox – failed again
The URL in the popup window that crashes is this one: https://ro.pinterest.com/pin/434738170279870562/repin/x/
4) Tried pinning from the second pinterest account using chrome for android / galaxy s7 edge – that one finally worked
I am not sure why it doesn’t work from my laptop, especially since I used different browsers + incognito modes..
Thanks
OK, I am making some progress.
On Survival Sullivan, after I pick the pin image, the window that opens has this URL:
https://www.pinterest.com/pin/434738170279870562/repin/x/
However, on another site of mine, which also has social pug, the URL is completely different:
Maybe this helps?
I asked a friend to try it, he is getting this error: https://snag.gy/Xo1GcN.jpg
It is the same URL I am seeing, not the /bookmarklet/ URL I have on my other site..
Hey @danfsullivan,
From what I see the pin link is for repinning, which seems to be broken on Pinterest’s side.
Do you have Social Pug Pro or Tasty Pins? If so, please note both plugins provide a Pin Repin ID feature. I’d recommend editing the image and removing the value from this Pin Repin ID field. With the value removed pinning should work properly.
Please let me know how it goes.
All the best,
MihaiI have social pug standard.. Are you saying to remove the data-pin-id attribute from the pinterest photo at the end of the article?
Yes, I believe you should remove the data-pin-id attribute. Most social plugins, when seeing the data-pin-id attribute build the pin URL with the “/repin/x/” suffix.
This worked properly, but for some time now Pinterest’s repin feature seems to fail. I can’t say why though.
Ok, I’ve been looking at another website of mine, things are getting tricky because here it works WITH the data-pin-id attribute: https://www.thesurvivalistblog.net/survive-nuclear-bomb/
SO it must be a theme issue or a plugin conflict of some sort?
Hmm… and you’re using the same social sharing plugins on both websites? Social Pug and the image hover button?
If so, can you please leave me a link to the post where it doesn’t work. Also, please let me know what sharing option you’ve tried. The image hover button, Social Pug’s Pinterest button, a browser extension or another method?
Hi Mihai,
Yes, I am using social pug and the jQuery Pin It Button for Images plugin on both.
An example URL that is not working is this one: https://www.survivalsullivan.com/shtf-bartering/
The sharing option I have tried was clicking social pug’s pin button at the top of the article as seen in this screenshot: https://snag.gy/spz6iU.jpg
jQuery Pin It Button for Images seems to work though, even though the button is set on the image that has the data-pin-id set. SO I don’t think it’s the attribute’s fault, because then the image hover button wouldn’t work either.
I just tried this flow again in a google chrome incognito window and I get the same unexpected window crash when i try to select a pinterest board.
OK, I tried pinning an article that doesn’t have a pin it button + image at the bottom, namely this one: https://www.survivalsullivan.com/best-pocket-holsters/
And it worked. This is getting weirder and weirder.
Ok,
So I published this article: https://www.survivalsullivan.com/disaster-checklist/
And tested the social pug pin button without putting the data-pin-id and it works! However, that attribute doesn’t seem to affect the behavior on my other site. This is getting very hard to fix, unless I go back and remove the attribute from past articles.
Hey @danfsullivan,
So, I’ve tried pinning both articles, the one with the image that has the data-pin-id set and the one with the image that does not. I’ve been able to pin both without any issues using Social Pug’s button. Here’s the link to the actual pins:
https://www.pinterest.com/pin/447193437998540843/
https://www.pinterest.com/pin/447193437998540845/Also, I’ve checked the post with the image that has the data-pin-id attribute (this one: https://www.survivalsullivan.com/shtf-bartering/) and I haven’t found the pin link with the “/repin/x/” suffix, which is the link that is broken.
So, in theory, all pinning should work, as it’s handled by Pinterest’s script and not by Social Pug.
At this point, I can’t really say why on your end it’s not working. Can you make a screencast on how you’re trying to pin the image? Having a video recording of your screen might be helpful in this case.
Thank you and all the best,
MihaiMihai,
I am busy working on my stuff at the moment but I replicated the exact same problem on another site of mine but with Sassy social shares. I will have to remove the data-pin-id from that website as well, although I’ve no idea why one of my sites works fine.
I truly cannot say. As far as I know it’s a Pinterest issue, so it should happen regardless of site or social media plugin used.
Also, I’ll mark this topic as resolved, given that nothing much can be done about the issue.
