It doesn’t. Any reason you want to use the custom field to find related posts?

    many possibilities:
    -brand
    -model
    -language
    etc…

combination of 2 custom fields would be even better…

    cheers!

I’ll put this on the list. But, no commitments on the deadline for this one.

    Great!

take your time, I’ll leave it installed ??

Another suggestion that would be useful is that it if it could get related from a sister site in a multisite installation, since more and more people are using multisite/network of wp..

    Cheers!

I have multi-site support on the charts.

I don’t think the plugin works well with that yet. In fact I haven’t even tested that since I don’t have a platform set up for it.

But, that would be a good idea indeed.

    maybe you could check
    https://www.ads-software.com/extend/plugins/external-related-links/

It might help as a reference…

I was even thinning about modifying some of the “RSS Widget” plugins (that can show posts from rss in a widget) and somehow get only related posts listed from rss… this way user could input the sister Rss in it…

    Hope it helps…

Thanks for the links. I’ll study the code to see what that does. The RSS seems like a good idea. The only issue I see is load on the site.

There is a way to get Rss of each category, so maybe to get it in category chunks would be easier to load… or to limit the rss size, but still it would have to find related…… this is where my knowledge drops ??

I would be happy to do some research so you can save some time, just let me know.

    Cheers!

    Hi again,

another great feature would be to use custom taxonomies to eliminate related posts that are related contextually but NOT related by “taxonomy”

for example, I use custom taxonomy for “location”, so showing related posts for different location is not welcome…

in other words, showing only “contextual related” posts with the same “selected” taxonomy. That can be anything, just like we discussed earlier for custom fields.

    Cheers!

not sure, but this might be helpful reference..

Thanks for the additional links. I’ll take a look at these to see how best to implement the same.

Just found the easy solution that you might be interested for checking to implement to your plugin…
This plugin gets related posts from different taxonomies, but they are not contextually related, with no images ??

    https://pippinsplugins.com/write-a-better-related-posts-plugin-for-custom-taxonomies/

By default it looks for “3 sharing tags” OR “sharing same custom taxonomy”.
Changing 'relation' => 'OR' to 'relation' => 'AND' will probably give results for “if both taxonomies” are sharing in the posts.

Changing the “tags” section to your contextual algorithm might be a bingo…

    hope it helps.

    Cheers!

I’ve given this some more thought.

I am not sure you can get a “contextual taxonomy” option.
It’s something that I will need to test if it can be done.

It might most probably be something like checking if the content of the posts is related to:
    1. Title
    2. Content
    3. Tags
