I’d like to display a list of related connections in a directory entity, a pseudo friend/follow/network function.

There are a couple possible use cases in mind, an entity wants to display affiliated/partnered entities (“who I am connected with”); an entity wants to display a list of entities they are interested in or suggested entities (“who I’d like to connect with” or “you might also be interested in…”).

I’d imagine the UI to provide a repeater field that autocompletes as the user types out the name of the existing directory entity in the field.

I’d also imagine that any affiliated/related entity would be able to display it on their directory page too – “who connected with me”

It would make sense to allow some way to block/reject, perhaps an option configured by admins. Also, probably best to allow the admin to set a limit on the number of related connections; or set to unlimited.

An additional search filter(s) to reflect these connection types would be useful to – search by “interested in me” etc.

Thanks for your time and consideration

Connections does include several “related to” Content Blocks. These can be enabled on the Connections Settings admin page under the Display tab in the Single Entry Content Blocks section towards the bottom of the page.

None of these work as outlined in your feature request, but perhaps with clever usage of categories, you might be able to mimic something similar.

I do like your suggestion, and I have added it to my feature request list.

Thanks Steven, I will take a closer look at the documentation you recommended.

And since you’ve noted that you’ve added the “connections feature” to your request list, it might be worthwhile seeing if following a BuddyPress integration direction (my other thread https://www.ads-software.com/support/topic/buddypress-buddyboss-integration-3/) might be good starting point, as the “social networking” capability might already be covered there.

That is unless you’re thinking of something a bit more specific to this directory plugin, then that’s fine too, and happy to flesh it out.
