Related post plugin to show posts with categories in common

  • I’m using the following category structure for my posts

    Post 1: Workshop about cooking
    Categories: workshop, cooking

    Post 2: Blog about cooking
    Categories: blog, cooking

    At post 1 I want to show ‘Related blogs’ in the sidebar, a.k.a. all posts with both categories blog and cooking
    At post 2 I want to show ‘Related workshops’ in the sidebar a.k.a. all posts with both categories workshop and cooking

    So when viewing post 1, the plugin should detect that it’s a workshop and show related blogs. When viewing post 2 the plugin should detect that it’s a blog and show related workshops.

    I’ve gone through a dozen of related post plugin, but none of them seems to have this functionality. Am I just overcomplicating things or am I overlooking the most flexible related post plugin?

    Could someone point me in the right direction – either a great plugin or an alternative way to accomplish this?
