    Hi,
In the past, the related posts made sense. Currently they don’t. For example, consider:

Post 1 tags: CAGR, Hedge Fund, HF Hacks, Managed Futures, Monte Carlo, Performance Monitoring, Rrangling

Post 2 tags: Correlation, Covariance, Hedge Fund, HF Hacks, Managed Futures

Post 3 tags: Biggest HF, Competitor Intelligence, Competitor Research, Form ADV, Hedge Fund, SEC, Web-scraping

Why would post 3 be offered as a related post to post 2 (only 1 tag in common), but not post 1 (3 tags in common)?

The page I need help with: [log in to see the link]

  • Hello,

Please note that the relationship is based on the contents of the post title. Is there any common words in the title of the Post 3 and the related posts for it?

    Really?

Thanks for the reply. I guess this makes it clear why it doesn’t work the way I expected!

Seems like tags would be better than titles – the whole purpose of tags is to identify posts with related subject matter! A post will also have more tags than meaningful words in the title.

Post 1 Title: Hedge Fund Return Predictability

Post 2 Title: Multiple Managers vs A Single Manager: Return Predictability

Post 3 Title: Hedge Fund Who’s Who – August 2017

Oh well, it is what it is! Thanks!

    Hey @blueeventhorizon,

I just wanted to add something to Harish his comment. Our plugin doesn’t only use the post title but uses a combination of many items. You can read what makes a post related here: https://www.never5.com/blog/makes-post-related/

    Kind Regards,

    Barry,

Thanks for the clarification – in my case, then, the issue is really that the weighting to the title content (80%) vs tags (10%) is probably higher than would be ideal for my situation. I have had in mind to use R and my tags and articles to do a little semantic mapping project to see if I can improve my tag structure.

I noticed in that article a link to another in which you explained how the weightings can be adjusted. You provide a PHP script to show how to adjust the weightings – where do I put that script and when would I run it?

I am pretty sure I could create a little “settings” page for myself to make it easier to experiment with this on my staging site.

I am very happy that you chimed in as I was going to give up on this plug-in!

    Hey Ian,

I agree with you. Changing the weights will probably help you a lot. The custom code can be added to your theme’s functions.php. If you don’t want to write custom code, you can also purchase our premium plugin which allows you to change the weights of these factors via the admin panel (without coding). You can read more about this and purchase it here: https://www.relatedpostsforwp.com/upgrade-premium/

After changing the weights, via custom code or our premium plugin, you’ll have to re-run the installation wizard for your changes to take effect.

    Kind Regards,

    Thanks Barry,
I will try the DIY route first. If I have any problems I may ask for more help.
Your premium package is a little rich for me!
    Kind regards,
    Ian
