Related Posts No Follow

Is there a reason that Related Posts use no follow links? I have seen a method to to remove this attribute via functions.php code snippet, which I am considering doing, but I don’t see why internal links would be nofollow in the first place.

Any reason why the links are nofollow? Any reason not to remove it?
