Related posts not showing entries

    Hi folks,

    I’ve installed and configured the related posts feature, but for some reason they aren’t showing up at the end of the post.

    Here’s a few things I tested…

    – Plugin is enabled and connected to wordpress.com
    – XML-RPC works
    – I have more than 10 posts
    – I’ve tagged and categorized posts
    – I’ve reindexed multiple times, it reports “Posts Indexed”.
    – I’ve added featured images

    I’m hosting on WPEngine and since this is a staging site, the “Discourage search engines from indexing this site” remains checked…so I’m not sure if that will affect the display of related posts.

    Any ideas…I’ve been scratching my head for an hour on this one.

    Your site doesn’t seem to be properly connected to WordPress.com at the moment. You will consequently experience issues with modules that need to interact with WordPress.com, like Related Posts.

    Here is the error I get when trying to POST to your site’s XML-RPC file:

    Hi Jeremy,

    Thanks for taking a look. I noticed the URL in the curl command was:

    https://schrader.staging.wpengine.com/journal/xmlrpc.php

    However, I think the one the script should be using to test is:

    https://schrader.staging.wpengine.com/xmlrpc.php

    Or maybe I’m misunderstanding something?

    That’s correct, my bad!

    Your site is properly connected to WordPress.com, but something else seems to stop Related Posts from being displayed.

    Could you try to install and activate this small plugin, by going to Plugins > Add New > Upload in your dashboard:

    Once you’ve activated the plugin, try to relaunch the indexation (you’ll find the reindex button by clicking on the “Debug” link at the bottom of the Jetpack menu in your dashboard).
    If the Related Posts start appearing, you can deactivate and delete this small plugin.

    Hi Jeremy,

    Bingo that did the trick! Related posts started showing up after we enabled that plugin and reindexed the site.

    Does that plugin serve as a workaround for the “Discourage search engines from indexing this site” preference we can’t change on staging, or does it do something else?

    I’m wondering if we’ll run into the same issue once we launch this on the live site.

    It only changes one of the Jetpack options, and isn’t related to your site settings. You shouldn’t have any trouble on the live site.
