I’ve installed JetPack for its Related Posts feature on a WP Engine hosted site, but can’t get them to display. The header is there, but hidden by the Jetpack css, and no posts show.

I’ve got a connection to JetPack established, but the Debug page says that there’s a XML-RPC request error, yet the XMLRPC file is reading correctly: https://homediggidy.com/xmlrpc.php

Oddly I have this exact same setup running on our dev server with no problems, so I’m assuming it’s WP Engine specific issue, but not sure where to look for a fix.

Ironically WP Engine recommends Jet Pack’s Related Posts featured in place of other plugin they ban.

This is the error from the Debug page:

    SELF:

  • Hi.

Any luck with this? I too have a site hosted on WPEngine but the related posts don’t show up. There is no error on my debug page – it says everything connected fine to Jetpack.

    Any help would be great.

    Thanks!

Waiting to hear. I have a support ticket in with WP Engine as well.

@ sarahu Have you seen this thread? If you have error-free connection, you might want to give Jeremy’s plugin a try (he links to it in the post):

Could you try disconnecting Jetpack from WordPress.com and then reconnecting?

To disconnect Jetpack from WordPress.com, click on Jetpack from your site’s Dashboard and then click on the “My Jetpack” button at the top. Click “Disconnect site from WordPress.com” to disconnect.

To reconnect, click the green button that says “Connect to Get Started”.

Didn’t help. Same “Is this site private” warning and error as above:

Yeah it didn’t help me either. I don’t get any errors but it’s still not working.

@mpmchugh thanks for the tip. I’ll check the out the plugin.

Can you please try deactivating and deleting Jetpack entirely, and then trying to reinstall it?

To remove Jetpack, you can FTP into your site and delete the folder wp-content/plugins/jetpack. (If you’re not sure how to do this, ask your hosting company for help.)

After that’s done, you can reinstall Jetpack by following these instructions:

It did not help removing and reinstalling Jetpack.

Still getting a “unable to make an XML-RPC request to your website” error and Related Posts still don’t show.

Is related Posts dependent on any other modules? I’ve got everything else turned off. Just Related Posts is active.

I tried the suggestion offered here:

    https://www.ads-software.com/support/topic/jetpack-failed_publicize_action-invalid-publicize-id-error-code-32601?replies=12

Of adding this to the wp-config:

    $_SERVER[‘SERVER_PORT’] = 443;

This got rid of the XML-RPC request error, and the status now says “Your Jetpack setup looks a-okay!”

However, the Related Posts themselves still do not display.

    So, still stuck.

Okay. It seems that the server port line in the config did solve the problem, once I re-indexed and cleared all the caches.

Once lingering question is that of the nine posts on the site, just one post is not showing any related posts, while the remaining 8 all show 6 related posts each as expected.

Any idea why there’d be the one outlier with no Related Posts?

Re-indexing did not help. After re-indexing, one post is still not showing any related posts.

Could you send over a link to that post so I can have a look?

    (@mpmchugh)

Odd. As of this morning, it’s showing Related Posts as expected. No idea why it was the only one not initially.
