Related posts show on pages not posts

Ok great! Although there might be some understandable confusion… Are you referring to the version I linked to (above) or the version from www.ads-software.com (which you would auto-update to)? They’re actually different.

The one I linked to above has a fix for your situation, which we’re aiming to release to everyone next week. The one on www.ads-software.com has some other features.

I’ve installed the provided plugin, but as I change the threshold it doesn’t seem to do anything. How can I test this?

Ya it can be a bit confusing with YARPP’s cache.
But here’s the test: If you UNcheck “Display results from all post types” on the YARPP settings page, under “Relatedness options”, then slightly change the match threshold (up or down, its only important that it changes, which triggers clearing the YARPP cache), and save, then all posts should show related posts but no related pages.

If that’s the case, it’s working. Does that make sense?

Yes i switched off the all post types option and changed around in the threshold. Which does work, but the actual threshold setting doesn’t seem to do much if I change from 1 to 5 to something else. What are the ranges the plugin understand and what does it do? Can i see it in the code or documentation to understand better?

Yeah the relatedness threshold is a bit hard to understand. There are no “units” so it seems like random number.

If, under “Display options for your website” you use the standard “list” button, then as an admin you will also be shown the score for each related item on posts and pages. It often varies between 0 and 100. I think explaining that better in our documentation is a growing priority, although I don’t yet think I understand it well enough to explain it well (I’m not the original developer.)

Ah i see, well I checked the code and noticed the filter i can apply to manually filter out unwanted pages so if I don’t get the threshold to do it i can brute force it lol.

Hi @krsp Please upgrade to v5.7.0 when you get a moment! It contains the fix that @mnelson4 is referring to.

Ok this fix has been included in YARPP 5.7.0 which was released just a few minutes ago, so you can return to using the normal verison of YARPP from www.ads-software.com.
