Hi, this is a great plugin. Thank you for making it.

I am using it on a customers site who aggregates from various feeds to make video posts from feed titles about music, sports, current events etc.

Is there a way to for your plugin “Related Youtube Videos” to automatically add a featured image to the post?

Currently I am using the “Video Thumbnails” by Sutherland Boswell (https://www.ads-software.com/plugins/video-thumbnails/) to pull feature video thumbnails from the posts once they are published. Unfortunately the plugin is only able to pull a thumbnail after the post is viewed but not as it is posted.

The “Video Thumbnails” plugin has a custom field enter the name of the custom field where the embed code or video URL from “Related Youtube Videos” is stored. It may solve my problem if you knew the name of the custom field where your plugin “Related Youtube Videos” stores the related video urls, preferably just the one url for the first related video.

Or, this could possible become a feature of the “Related Youtube Videos” plugin which would be even better.

Please let me know. Depending on the cost my client may be able to contribute to coding of this solution.

    Carlos

    Hi,
interesting use case, yet I don’t think I will integrate such a function into my plugin. But the “Video Thumbnails” plugin seems to be extendable. So I will see if I can squeeze the both of them together. Just give me a day or so to get a better at the code.

Does your plugin use a custom field to store the videos in?

There is a custom field option in the Video Thumbnails plugin.

If so I could give this a try and see what happens.

No, mine is not adding or storing any post meta data. The YT results are cached in a JSON format. Still…can you try this additional plugin?

    video-thumbnails-addon-rytv-1.0.0.zip

It should act as a bridge between both. Respectively, the Video Thumbnails plugin should now also scan for videos coming via the Related Youtube Videos plugin.

There’s a little error though which might pop up depending on how your PHP error levels are set. I had to define a constant before the Video Thumbnails plugin is doing it. So you might get an error/notice “constant already defined” or “cannot be redeclared” or something like that.

But if this addon works I will contact the other developer and maybe he’s willing to apply a little tweak that I have in mind.

Hi, unfortunately the client decided to do something else entirely regarding adding videos to his website so I did not get a chance to try your plugin addition.

Im sorry. If I get a chance I will try it out on another site and I will let you know how it goes. Thank you for being so responsive to me requests.

You’re welcome and no problem at all.

    Hi Chris,

I have the exact same problem and I use the same 2 plugins, so I installed your Add-on from this topic. It works when you directly publish a post, but when you shedule a post the featured image is not added to the post.

I would be extremely happy if you could update the Add-on to also scan for the shortcode when you shedule a post.

    Thanks in advance!
