• Hi!

New to WordPress coming from Textpattern and Drupal.

Is there any way to say that one entry is related somehow to another? Like I have an entry for an event, and I want it to be interlinked to a venue that is also an entry on its own (with background information about the place, etc)

I’d like to be able to say “Winter Dance” is at “Jane’s House”, and be able to display both entries at the same time, in different columns. Column 1 would have all the details about the “Winter Dance” entry, and column 2 would have, for example, all the other events happening at “Jane’s House”, as well as a little blurb about Jane’s House.

Is this possible? I’m not asking for detailed instructions or a completed solution; just want a hint for direction, possible modules, etc…

    Thanks

  • 1. There are no modules in WP… [sorry, you will have to learn the WP lingo]
    2. You are asking 2 different questions – at least, that’s my impression from a WP perspective.
    3. First question: relating posts to each other, a.k.a. “interlinked” with related posts (to use your words)
Answer: yes. Search for “related posts” plugin.
Answer 2. If you use the UTW plugin that will do the same, among meny other stuff.
Both will display a link to related posts.
    4. Second question: To display “related posts” in another column next to the original one…
Answer: I don’t know of anything like that. It would mean a lot of tweaking of the theme… possible a new plugin? – there is nothing like that, as far as I know.

Great, thanks for the answer! Yes, there were 2 questions in that post. I wanted to achieve the second goal eventually, while the 1st question is the essential component that would make it possible.

I’ll check out the 2 plugins you mentioned. I’m thinking that some custom queries need to be built to make #2 come to life.

I’ll give it a shot! My php is not the best but I think I can do a first cut.

    thanks again
