I’m sorry if it’s in the threads, but I cannot find it. I’m wanting to know if there is a way to create relationships between entries? Can person A and B be connected somehow? Also, if yes, can there be multiple links between multiple people thus creating subgroups. I realize we can make categories, and that de facto creates a group, but imagine if among a group of electricians, some of them would want to connect on their own because they all share a common interest in high-voltage lines.

Sorry, the only way I can think of accomplishing this would be to use child categories. For example, create a new “Electricians” category and then create a second new category, “High-voltage”, but before saving, choose “Electricians” as the parent category.

This would have to be done by the admin, as there is no way for the users to self-group.

I hope this answers your question; please let me know.

Hi Steven. Thanks for the prompt response. It does but does not solve the challenge. I feel that a directory serves two purposes, both to face out to those searching for information but also as a pure networking tool. I know that not all apps/plugins can do it all and that bloatware should be discouraged. I just find your app to have such high praise that having make that additional step into the networking world would benefit many. I may, of course, be wrong, but I for one am desperately looking for a tool that allows visitors to know who the members are but also to allow our members to interconnect. Again, thanks for that quick and honest reply.

RE: I for one am desperately looking for a tool that allows visitors to know who the members are but also to allow our members to interconnect.

The only available solution that I can think of that offers this is BuddyPress.

Connections does not have any direct integrations with BuddyPress, but it does have an add-on “Link” that allows a registered WP User to be linked to a Connections Directory Entry. This link enables the registered WP User to add and maintain that linked directory entry with or without admin moderation.

As BuddyPress also requires a registered WP User, you can have the directory powered by Connections and the networking features powered by BuddyPress.

Perhaps this is a workable solution?

I am marking this as resolved due to inactivity. If you still need help with this, please do not hesitate to let me know.
