• Thought I’d pop in a note about my Relationships Blog that I had running under Drupal for 2 years and converted it over to WordPress just before Christmas.

It took me a few weeks to do, once I got some assistance in converting the Forum part of Drupal over to bbPress, by the guys at gComvertor. In hindsight, I should have just got them to do the entire conversion and saved the labour.

Learning curve was minimal – still having a few permalink hiccups which I think is some minor conflicts between a few permalink plugins I’ve used to retain the friendly URL structure of my previous site and search engines.

I must say most things are a whole lot easier so the next step is working out the shopping cart side of things and the theming. It’s a great pity that bbPress is a plugin that fails to respect the site theming that I have in place as well as theme shortcodes and using a different paradigm as far as content types go.

All in all, I’m a much happier camper with WordPress than Drupal – never thought I’d be saying that though.

    Cheers
    Martin

  • How convert it?

    Hi,

I spent quite a bit of time with custom SQL conversion scripts that I found through Google searches. That got me to an advanced stage but I was stumped with the Drupal forums conversion since I was using bbPress and this plugin uses its own content types.

I scoured the net for conversion of these and, in the end, opted to use https://www.gconvertor.com services. They were certainly the cheapest and I found them very informative and useful. You don’t pay until you’re happy as well which is a big plus.

I should have used these guys for the entire process, in hindsight ??

A free Java program (instead of direct SQL scripts that may be less easy to modify)for the basic migration can be found https://modeling-languages.com/migrating-drupal-6-to-wordpress-3/

For professional services check https://migratetowp.com with more than half a million posts migrated already

Yeah, I had a look at that Java thing and found it way too confusing. And I started my search with that ‘modeling’ link.

I found GConverter to be by far the cheapest and reliable for what I wanted to do. That MigratetoWP site is much more expensive, in my opinion. Good luck with it though, I’m sure every one’s requirement are different to mine but I’m pretty happy now.

Sure, all depends on what you need to be done, readers are smart enough to check the different options and choose the one that fits best their specific needs.

I like it ?? thanks for sharing!
