• Hi guys,

I’m making my website on localhost and facing the issue with the links to pages and media. Most of the permalinks generated by WP are absolute (e.g. https://localhost/wordpress/wp-content/uploads/2022/09/5D_70665i.jpg) so aren’t visible from any other computers except mine. However, the menu pages created from the theme customization panel have relative links to them which is a correct way of creating links. My question is, is there an option to change some settings so all the links created will be relative? Otherwise, how am I supposed to move my site from localholst to a permanent one?

  • If you are entering absolute links you will need to change them when you move your site. The post and pages are not really physical files. They live in your database. WordPress takes care of the permalinks. There are different plugins that will clone or Duplicate your site and make sure your links are correct. I don’t know of any free ones. Even the one that posts being free will back up your site and bundle it. But, will charge a fee to unbundle and set the site back up. You can check the plugin directory for plugins that clone your site. The biggest thing you want to make sure happens is your database and its schema is copied to your new site.

Thanks! Can I just clarify a bit: it’s not that I’m entering absolute links, it’s WP creating them automatically when I create pages or upload media. So I was wondering if it’s possible to have relative links in the first place (as WP is capable of creating them in case of menu pages).
