• Since the update to 4.5, none of my sites work. I’ve spent hundreds of hours getting the theme functionality perfect, and literally NO part of the site works since this update. Images are missing. Anything with animation or parallax doesn’t load. Carousels don’t advance. It’s completely destroyed my theme and site, and I can’t even use the tools (Bakery Visual Composer) in the dashboard to try to figure it out, because those don’t work since the update either!

How can I revert to the previous version of WordPress? Please help. I’m literally losing income and opportunity by the hour since V 4.5 went into effect.

    Thank you!
    Erik Tyler

  • Both Bakery Visual Composer and Uncode are premium/paid products not supported in these forums. You need to go to the site where you bought the products for help.

FYI, VC was fixed a month ago to support WP 4.5 https://wpbakery.atlassian.net/wiki/display/VC/Release+Notes

Check with Uncode for theme compatibility with WP 4.5

To roll back to a previous version of WP and your theme/plugins, you need a complete database backup, your theme and plugins, and a set of previous version WP files. See https://codex.www.ads-software.com/Restoring_Your_Database_From_Backup and https://www.ads-software.com/download/release-archive/

Thank you. I’ll try the reversion, since I just backed up less than a week ago.

Apparently, the issue was that WP v. 4.5 updated to some new version of Javascript of which some developers of themes were not made aware. I’ve rolled back to a previous version of WP for now, and the site is back to working properly (as would be expected).

I trust that theme developers and WP developers will be able to have better communication moving forward and that I will be able to update to the newer versions of WP.

    Thanks,

It’s all in the standard sticky post that appears for each release: https://www.ads-software.com/support/topic/read-this-first-wordpress-45-master-list?replies=6

    Aloha @mark Ratledge
I have over 60 WordPress websites. The latest WordPress 4.5 has affected many of them. As most people are aware, this update has caused havoc and loss of income. I have scoured the internet to find a “fix” or a “solution” and it appears that people’s questions are being answered on many blogs without a direct solution. Although its very nice that you volunteer your time and are trying to be helpful, but no one seems to just answer a simple question…”How do I downgrade to the previous version”?

I was mislead by my host and actually “broke” one of my sites. without wasting more time to get a simple answer, “How do I downgrade to the previous version”? Although it may seem like a easy fix, I’m now trying to find the one right answer. No one has made it clear. Do you know what I need to do to go back to the previous version? Mahalo!

@hawaii8115: There is a clear solution; read https://www.ads-software.com/support/topic/read-this-first-wordpress-45-master-list?replies=6 outlines how themes and plugins are breaking due to jQuery 1.12. Update your theme and plugins.

WP 4.5 was in beta for two months; all theme and plugin developers were aware of that. jQuery 1.12 was released 3 months ago.

Re: downgrades: you can’t reliably downgrade unless you have a full file and database backup from a previous version of WordPress.

Ive read that post 4 times. It doesn’t answer my questions. I’ve been told by my host that reverting back to the previous version of wordpress is easily done. Here is the link for the instructions provided by my host:
    https://dominiquej.com/how-to-downgrade-wordpress-to-previous-version/
So far, it seems like it only make it worse. Here is the Fatal Error I get when I follow the above instructions:

Warning: require(/home2/dennisj/public_html/roseadaregallery/wp-includes/class-wp-metadata-lazyloader.php): failed to open stream: No such file or directory in /home2/dennisj/public_html/roseadaregallery/wp-settings.php on line 138

Fatal error: require(): Failed opening required ‘/home2/dennisj/public_html/roseadaregallery/wp-includes/class-wp-metadata-lazyloader.php’ (include_path=’.:/opt/php54/lib/php’) in /home2/dennisj/public_html/roseadaregallery/wp-settings.php on line 138

I use the All In One WordPress Migration Plug-in to make back-ups of all my websites. It is free and the best plug-in I’ve ever used. So I already have a backup. I’m confused by the link you sent that explains to have the database backed up etc. I have made the back-up but, from the WordPress 4.5 installation (unfortunately). All I need to know is this:

How can I install WordPress 4.2 OVER the 4.5 installation or do a reinstall?
How can I replace the OLD JQuery script with a new JQuery script?

Do you have any recommendations OTHER than the link you’ve sent? Mahalo!

@hawaii8115, Please open your own thread to discuss that. This isn’t a giant thread where everyone can log their issues.

Why be RUDE? I’m asking questions, is that a problem?

hawaii8115, Andrew was not being rude. He was directing you to how to get support for your issue.

Forums don’t work well when several discussions covering multiple issues are taking place on a single thread.

Please see the forum welcome page which outlines where to post etc: https://codex.www.ads-software.com/Forum_Welcome

Then ANDREW should have let me know without being rude. Ic you are a moderator in these forums, you should be sensitive to anyone affected by the 4.5 release which has cost businesses countless $$$. It makes NO sense that someone trying to seek a resolution has someone like ANDREW chastising an innocent post. Get it together guys! Watch your sarcastic replies to people in this forum and use careful language. This is WordPress afterall. I definitely won’t be back here!

It makes a lot of sense to create your own thread to discuss your own issues. If you discuss your issues on someone else’s thread then regardless of how polite you are, you are rudely taking over their thread. We call that thread hijacking.

Removing Headspace2 plugin finally fixed broken “Add media” button in WordPress 4.5.2. Deactivating a number of other Gallery plugins prior to this, did not fix broken “Add media” button.

    Hope this helps others.
