Is it possible to set up reminder emails (like PublishPress Planner Pro Reminders add-on) based on a change date in PublishPress Future?

Use case – we have a post set to expire (i.e. become a draft) 14 days after publication. We want the author to be notified 7 days in advance of that change and 24 hours in advance of that change.

    Hi @jnearwt

    Thanks for using PublishPress Future.

This should be possible using our new Action Worklow in the Pro version. Let me know if you need any help implement it.

    Thanks,

Yes, I could use some help there. I’m not seeing how I would schedule an email based on the scheduled date of when the status will be changed to draft. Everything seems to be based on past actions (publish a post, update a post) and not future actions. There is no future Date Source in the Schedule Step to base a negative offset on.

@jnearwt You could use the relative date source:

And you dont need to use negative offset.

So the flow should looks like a follow:

    1. Post is Saved (Published)
    2. Schedule 7 days after
    3. Send email
    4. Schedule 7 days after
    5. Move the post status to draft

    Have you tried that?

I don’t think that works for our use case. While typically the workflow is 14 days, in some cases, that may be pushed out further. We are using PublishPress future to expire in 14 days, then on a case-by-case basis, editing individual posts to extend that as needed (could be extended to 18 days, 21 days, 45 days, etc).

What we want is a notification to always go out 7 days before the status changes to draft regardless of the difference between the publish date and the draft date and regardless of if that difference changes. Since the “change” date is built into the plug-in, even the free version (we’re using the [futureaction type=date] shortcode), I was hoping this would relative easy ??

    Hi @jnearwt

This would be possible to achieve using the workflow builder available in the Pro version, except by the fact we still don’t support custom “expiration” dates per post for expiration triggered by a workflow. The workflow also can’t read the expiration date from the legacy Future Action box, for now.

If the expiration period is kept as 14 days for all posts, then a custom workflow would allow you to create a notification scheduled to 7 days after the post is published (7 days before it expires), and 13 days after published (1 day before it expires).

But we are planning some improvements to the workflow builder, allowing to create the notifications related to the expiration date, with custom expiring date interval if needed.

Thank you for all of the information! Looking forward to the new features!
