I have tested the source code of my website with WordPress 6.5.5 and WordPress 6.6, used PHP 7.4 and 8.2, and used the theme of Twenty Sixteen version 3.3. My website currently uses image remote access by uploading images to a remote FTP server using Hacklog Remote Attachment or WPFTP plugins. Use external links for referencing.

The problem we are currently facing is that clicking on “Edit Image” in the media library cannot edit (crop), and at the same time, clicking on “View Attachment Page” (? attachment_id=)<img width=”1″ height=”1″ , The displayed image has a width and height of 1.

Using Twenty Seventeen version: 3.7 theme in the same environment, the attachment page can display images normally. But editing images in the media library also cannot crop images.

I feel that WordPress is not very friendly towards remote images! Is it true that remote image processing is no longer supported now?

Since you are using 2 plugins, the behavior when calling external images in your media library depends on their programming.

The Hacklog Remote Attachment plugin is extremely old and therefore probably no longer compatible with WordPress: https://www.ads-software.com/plugins/hacklog-remote-attachment/ – I would recommend not using it.

The other plugin is unfortunately only available in Chinese, which is why I can’t understand it. If you want to continue using it, contact their support forum: https://www.ads-software.com/support/plugin/wpftp/

Another factor is your own server. Certain PHP libraries are required for image processing. If these are not available, such errors can also occur. Have a look under Tools > Site Health to see if any anomalies are mentioned. If so, contact your hoster’s support team.

By the way, I have also developed such a plugin myself, which easily integrates external images without having to download them to the local hosting. See: https://www.ads-software.com/plugins/external-files-in-media-library/

【External files in media library 】I have installed and tested it, but it is not the function I need. I cannot directly upload images to a remote server through FTP. The two plugins shared above require filling in FTP information, uploading them to the media library, and uploading them directly to the remote server. Moreover, the media library is loaded with.

Have you also looked at the rest of my tips? I’m guessing that your hosting is the cause of the problem – or that the plugin is too old.

Hacklog Remote Attachment has been fixed. WPFTP is a plugin that was updated within 2 months, and it appears to be compatible with 6.5.5. Tools “>” There are no major issues with the site’s operation. I have disabled some features, but I don’t think it will affect the image processing aspect.
