"Remote-Register" function on own hosted WP sites?

  • Hello dear WP users and helpers!

    I have a simple question since I did not find anything about that in the official WP documentations: Is there some kind of “Remote-Registration” for WP?

    The question came into my mind because I’m running https://www.PonySFM.com on WordPress. When a new user registers over the field which will be triggered after clicking “Register” they’ll automatically get Contributor as group.
    But I saw that in one week there are over 150 spam registrations which get assigned to “Subscribers” for some reason. Since we don’t support that group it’s just not logical for me why this happens rather then some sort of remote registration.

    I hope you guys can help me, thanks already!

    PS.: Okay, while writing this text here something came to my mind. The register-URL is still accessible even tho we have our own registration field. The new question now: How can I disable that site without completely blocking registration?
