I’m a long time Xcloner user. I did a presentation on using it at the Boston WordPress Meetup and there’s a video of me doing that. I know it works but something has changed here. I keep detailed notes of the steps I take. I’m trying to do a remote restore as I’m moving a site from a development server to a new live server.

    It’s always been simple.
#1. Create the new WP site.
    #2. Add the Xcloner plugin.
#3. Upload the Xcloner backup from the development site to the root level of the new site.
#4. Download the restore script files, move them to the root level of the new site and expand them there.
    #5. Check the connection.

That’s as far as I get. I get a 500 error. What’s very concerning is that my public_html directory permissions are getting changed from 750 to 777. Repeatedly. That’s bad.

Following up. I was migrating from a MAMP site to the live host. For some reason the permissions were not coming over correctly. They were getting changed in the process. Not sure what that was about?

Also, do I need to do steps #1 and #2? Could I simply start with #3 and then #4? Akeeba Backup works that way.

    Hi there.

After reviewing the restore process with the Plugin Repo team, we have changed how restoration works.

At this time, we do not recommend using a restoration script. Rather, we recommend the following:

#1. Create the new WP site.
    #2. Add the Xcloner plugin.
#3. Upload the Xcloner backup from the development site to the root level of the new site.
#4. On the new WP site, login and select Site Backups > Restore backups.
#5. Select the file you uploaded and follow the prompts to complete the restoration.

We are in the process of updating our documentation for this now.
