I’ve been trying out Total Upkeep this afternoon and am intending to SFTP a weekly backup to my Synology NAS from the web server.

The root of my SFTP isn’t writable and there’s also other content on there anyway so I want to write the backups to a site specific folder within a ‘weekly-backups’ folder.

The ‘Folder name’ field for setting up the SFTP config won’t allow slashes and there’s no other field to enter a path to this ‘weekly-backups’ folder. Is this possible?

Thanks in advance for your attention in this matter, Charlie

    Hi Charlie –

Thanks for the question! I’m not super familiar with Synology, but the most common way to accomplish this is to set up a specific SFTP user account with a different “home” directory for Total Upkeep to use. That way when it logs in, it’ll already be in the right path to end up where you need it to be.

Let me know if that won’t work for your case, and I’ll see if I can find another good workaround for you.

    Hi Jesse

Thanks for the response. Unfortunately the FTP/SFTP implementation on the Synology NASs is pretty poor in this regard. I have managed to do this but it’s still not working despite me testing from another remote (Windows) server using WinSCP that drops files straight into the home folder on the NAS for the new FTP account.

Maybe a future mod for Total Upkeep would be to allow folder path into the field along with a means to run a test scheduled backup on a button rather than having to setup a Cron job and letting that run… or am I missing something there?

    Regards, Charlie

    Hi Charlie –

I think that’s a good idea so I’ve gone ahead and created a feature request for you – https://github.com/BoldGrid/boldgrid-backup/issues/534. You can check back here for updates on it’s status.

    Best Wishes!
