if anyone googling this:

create a page called home,
The content below the homepage featured section can be changed from Setting -> Reading and then check the front page settings to “A static page”. Then simply select the page from your website that you want to display on the front page.
in this case home.

another useful thing under theme settings custom css
.more-link {
display: none;
}
this will remove the “read more”
