• Hello.
Inside a post edit, there are much more buttons than in TinyMCE button config. There are buttons like ‘highlight text’, ‘display feeds’, ‘dropcap’ etc. There are also other buttons inserted by plugins (to add their respective shortcodes for example).

How can I really customize which buttons a user will see?
    Thanks

This was possible at one point but had to remove it. Turned out that many people would remove another plugin’s button(s), then forget about it and complain to the other plugin author…

If you want to hide the buttons added by TinyMCE plugins, why installing these plugins at all? ??

Buttons are sometimes needed, that’s why. To be more precise, I only want those buttons removed for specific user roles. For example, I have content editors for the site that should only be able to create text-based posts. Those users should only be able to see basic text-editing buttons, not buttons that enable them to add an advanced grid or an iframe.

That sounds like a good idea for a plugin. I may add it to TinyMCE Advanced one day, not sure how many people would need something like that though.

@azaozz I would like to add a “+1” or upvote for this!! It’s definitely a feature I would use (the ability to allow or remove specific buttons added by OTHER plugins).

Like @fesarlis I also have certain levels of users that I DO want to have access to SOME buttons/function but NOT to others…..for example GravityForms adds an “Add Form” button, WP-Tiles adds a “Tiles” button (those are things I don’t want anyone below an Editor to have access to)…..the list goes on.

The only way I’ve found to remove those buttons is to overwrite the built-in TinyMCE but then it doesn’t allow for buttons added by plugins that I DO want users to have access to.

On my “in a perfect world” wishlist is the wish that someday ALL plugin developers will add an Admin Setting that asks if buttons should be added and if so, for which user levels. Sigh, I hope and dream. ??
