Remove child category from breadcrumbs

    Hi Yoast team,

    Thank you for all of your work for the WP community, you are true digital heroes!

    I have a question which I couldn’t find the answer to after roughly 30min searching and reading.

    I’d like to remove the child category from the breadcrumbs and only show Parent categories.

    We have selected multiple categories for posts and show these in the category archives.
    We also chose parent categories to show of the hierarchy. We only do not want al categories in the breadcrumbs but only the parent category, chosen for each post.

    Is this something we need to add in functions.php and if yes; would you perhaps have some code available for us?

    Yoast does not have a built in feature which automatically removes child categories from the breadcrumbs. However, we do have some breadcrumb filters like wpseo_breadcrumb_single_link that you will need to use to build out a custom code solution that can remove those items from the breadcrumb category.     Unfortunately, there’s a difference between the support we can offer and the level of programming needed to change (core) features of our plugin. Since we don’t want to take the risk that we break your website by suggesting incorrect or incomplete code, we cannot advise you on how to make such changes.
