Remove "comments closed" text – how?

I tried .comments-closed { display: none; } manually, it put “display – none” in Decoration in the visual interface. I thought I had not worked, so I started this thread. It sort of did…

It seems to work, except for excerpts on the home page still have “comments closed” text.
