Remove date picker and replace with auto fill slashes for dates

We want to get rid of the datepicker and instead have the visitor be able to type their birthday in the form with auto fill slashes in between the month, day, and year. The visitor would type 12251976 and the information sent out would read 12/25/1976
MM/DD/YYYY
Any suggestions as to how to make this happen?
