Remove default display when using widget

Is there no easier way to do this from the wordpress dashboard? something in settings, perhaps?

Removing the current item is considered bad form for a breadcrumb trail. Therefore, it is not an option available in the settings. However, the linked plugin does remove the current item. And, I’m having a hard time seeing how a setting is significantly easier than installing a plugin (that has zero settings to configure and just does one thing).
