There’s a problem with the “Remove featured image” link in my posts. I want to set a featured image. I go to edit my post and it says “Remove featured image” (even though I’ve never set a featured image).

When I click the “Remove featured image” link nothing happens. This doesn’t happen on all my posts. Only the posts starting on page 3. For example, “Ed-2: A Robot that Inspires”, “Chief Innovation Officer of Massachusetts Wants Your Help”, and “How To Keep Your Blog Safe and Secure”.

I want all my posts to have a featured image before you click into them. Like my home page (with the 5 circular pictures).

    My website is:

  • OK, we need to check plugin conflict to eliminate that cause:

    Deactivate all plugins
    Test if OK
If OK, reactivate plugins one-by-one to find the culprit

    I only use 3 plugins.

    Akismet
    Google Analytics for WordPress
    Regenerate Thumbnails

I deactivated them but I’m still having the problem.

    They should be fine.

OK, can you change Theme (eg twentytwelve) and see if problem persists. If it does then it’s not a Customizr problem. Which version of WP? 3.8? Try reinstalling.

If it doesn’t persist, then try reinstalling latest Czr 3.1.6 by Deactivate-Delete-Reinstall.

I changed the theme to twentytwelve and I’m still having the problem. I’m using version 3.8 of WP. I set up WP through the admin panel of my host. Would I reinstall using my host’s admin panel?

One suggestion is to download a fresh copy of WordPress and have them overwrite the files using a FTP client.

Make sure you download wp-config.php first because you’ll need to put it back on the server once the WordPress files are overwritten.

Thank you for your help, respectyoda & rdellconsulting.

My plan is to make a backup of my WP install. Then I’ll download a fresh copy of WP. I’ll put that onto my site via FTP.

This is my first time doing this.

Is there anything in particular that I should watch out for?

Do you know of a support article that would walk me through this process step-by-step?

Sean, yes, make a back up of your WP install. Then upload a fresh copy of WP to your site via FTP. The only files/folders from your backup that you should put back in the site would be just wp-config.php and wp-content.

I backed up my WP. Then I uploaded a fresh copy via FTP. I put wp-content and wp-config.php back (from my backup). I’m still having the problem.

Here’s a screenshot from my WP. This shows the bottom right of one of the posts that’s having the problem. Nothing happens when clicking “Remove featured image”.

It’s happening in both Firefox and Chrome.

I think you’re suffering from the image problems currently present on non-retina Customizr setups. The image is there, but it’s not displaying properly in the panels (and on the site).

Go to Customiz’it > images and switch on retina support. Let us know if that fixes it.

I have a MacBook Pro with a retina display. I’m still having the problem with the checkbox checked (or unchecked) for “Enable/disable retina support”.

Try reuploading the image with retina support switched ON.

    Thread Starter Sean

    (@seanlaurence)

I can’t see the featured image when I’m editing the post. There’s no way for me to reupload it. Nothing happens when I click on “Remove featured image” (what I have to do before I upload it). In other posts I can see the featured image. The problem is happening in just some of my posts.

There are 2 images (not featured images) in this post:

    “Ed-2: A Robot that Inspires”

I reuploaded them with retina support switched on. I don’t think that helps though. I’m not able to upload an image using the Featured Image box (on the bottom right). See this screen shot:

    https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/16777087/Remove%20featured%20image.png

    Try this:
    – Go to your media library and delete the image permanently. (I’m assuming you have a copy on your local disk.)
    – Use FTP to delete any remaining copies of the various sizes of the image. (This, in my opinion, is where the problem lies.)
    – Re-upload the image with retina support switched on. (Switching it on will make sure you don’t re-create the problem.)
    – Set the featured image.
    – Report back.

    (@seanlaurence)

    Here’s what I did:

    1. Deleted the 2 images (not the featured images) from my post (via the media library).
    2. Deleted 1 version of an image that was on FTP site (concept2-620x 180-1.png). It was the only one I could find.
    3. Uploaded the 2 images (again, not the featured images) to my post (via edit post).

Retina display support was switched on.

Before I changed my theme I never set the featured image. This was because my old theme didn’t support it.

I’m still having the problem of the featured image link not working. When I click it, nothing happens. I don’t have the ability to remove (or set) the featured image in some posts.

I tested this from a friends Mac. He doesn’t have a retina display. Before I made any of these changes he couldn’t see the featured image on page 3.

Can you right click the area with the image and view element?
See if there is an image there but just broken. It does however sound like @electricfeet might be correct.

Try a new post now that your setting is switched to retina display setting.
Then see if you can add a feature and remove the feature image.
