• Hello you clever WordPress people. I am a fairly competent user of WordPress having created many websites over the years but one little issue has me baffled, but is probably something obvious that I am missing. My website uses the free version of a theme called ‘The Blogging’. There doesn’t seem to be a specific support area relating to this theme.

The issue I have is that on the desktop PC view of my website there is a hamburger icon in the white header bar, that when clicked creates a slide out panel showing my logo, time, date and a search bar, but nothing else. I have created a mobile hamburger menu for use with a smartphone that works perfectly well but the desktop one is fixed and cannot be edited anywhere in my control panel. I don’t even need the hamburger option on my desktop view as it isn’t required as the other menus do everything I need them to do.

So I either need to remove the hamburger menu option from the desktop view, or at very least be able to edit the contents of the slide in sidebar, but no matter what I try I cannot delete the icon nor edit the contents of the slide in side bar itself.

If anyone can suggest a solution to either it would be really appreciated. I don’t really want to change the theme, because other than this one glitch, I really like it.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions

I recommend asking at https://www.ads-software.com/support/theme/the-blogging/ so the theme’s designers and support community can help you with this.

(to find support for free theme’s hosted here, look for “View support forum” in the sidebar of the theme’s listing, like at https://www.ads-software.com/themes/the-blogging/ )

Thanks for that James, it looks like the themes designers aren’t offering any support there. Help requests over the past 3-5 years have never been responded to and closed without any assistance given. So hopefully someone other than the designers can suggest something

First of all: your question does not concern the design but a functionality of a theme. These are usually hard-coded, especially with old themes. If the developer has not included any options for this, even a designer cannot help with customising the design.

I’ve just had a look at the theme you’ve chosen. The hamburger menu is hard-coded there. There are no plans to use a different menu.

So you only have the following options:

    a) You could create a child theme and insert the header.php of the theme into it and customise it to your requirements. You must know PHP to do this. You can find instructions for the child theme here: https://developer.www.ads-software.com/themes/advanced-topics/child-themes/ – if you need help with this, find someone who can do it for you, e.g. here: https://jobs.wordpress.net/
    b) Look for another theme that can fulfil your wishes and design ideas. There are many free ones to choose from.
