Remove hreflang tag from the page, no luck.

Hello,

My question is similar to this post: https://www.ads-software.com/support/topic/remove-hreflang-tag-from-the-page/

I have tried both of the filters mentioned in the referred thread. I have tried them both in functions.php and in a plugin file. Still the hreflang links appear.
What am I missing, are there other ways to go?

Plugin version is 2.11.3
