    Hello. I just started using the plugin from Modern Tribe: Events Calendar, because it has some additional functionality that I can really use. I’ve successfully removed “Latest Events/News” from interior pages and replaced with the “Upcoming Events” widget that came with Events Calendar. However, I cannot get rid of the default “Latest Events/News” from the home page.

    I have tried to set the “# of Events to show next to Welcome Message” to zero, and it resets itself to 3 upon save. I have tried setting it to one (1) and it saves, but still displays 3.

    I have removed the checkboxes in Theme Options, Sidebar, on “Show Latest Events” on both the left and right sidebars.

    I have put the widget in the right sidebar in the widgets screen, but it has no effect on the home page. It is operating properly on interior pages.

    Note also that under “Customize” (under Appearance), the “static front page” setting is set to “your latest posts,” not to “static home page.” When I set it to “static home page,” it wants me to give it a page to go to, and there is no page named “home,” even though I clearly have a separate home page. I don’t quite understand this, and wanted you to know about it in case it is impacting this problem.

    Thank you for any help you can provide.
    MJ

    This would be less of an issue if I hadn’t discovered another problem. Shortcodes do not work properly unless you are on the exact page or post where the shortcodes are entered. My “Latest Events” currently has a shortcode in the only post in the Events category, and the front page displays the text of the shortcode. If you click into the post, the shortcode executes properly. The same issue occurred elsewhere on the site (in the Amazon List plug-in, under /learn/bookshelf), which I have now corrected by changing the menu from a category-post base to a page. However, that is a short-term fix in that situation.

    I would like to be able to replace the front page “Events” with the “upcoming events” widget that I am using on the inside pages. However, if that can’t be done easily, a quicker fix might be to fix this shortcode problem. Is that possible?

    Would you like me to open a separate post for this shortcode problem?

    The site is https://www.tdi3.org.

    Thank you so much.

    To get rid of the default “Latest Events/News” you can edit index-one.php

    For event you can not set to 0, It can be either 1 or more than and make sure that you choose the category to display event else it will keep on showing 3 dummy posts.

    “Show Latest Events” on both the left and right sidebars will have effect only on internal pages but will have no effect in homepage.

    If you want some other page to display in the homepage instead of default layout, just choose the “static front page” and you desired page.

    About shortcode, we need to strip the html tags and limit the number of character to display.. Due to striping of tag your shortcode is not working in front page.. Just put few lines of text before you include shortcode so that the front page will have some text to display skipping shortcode..

    Hope you got all your answer.
    Cheers

    Thanks for the response. I tried adding lines of text on the front page, but in the Events section, it just bleeds them off the page, and when one clicks into the page to read the rest, it works as expected. I guess I’ll go into index-one.php and see what I can do there. I don’t know much about PHP, so if you would have time to tell me what to strip out, and then what to put in there, that would be pretty wonderful. I’m using the Modern Tribe plug-in, and I’ve also added Event Rocket to provide shortcodes that I can use to create a list of upcoming events. Thank you so much.

    Ok it is better not to display the excerpt..
    For this got to like number 107 of index-one.php and remove the code

    <div class="event-excerpt">
    <?php echo accesspresslite_excerpt( get_the_content() , 100 ) ?>
    </div>

    or if you still want to show the excerpt use this code

    <div class="event-excerpt">
    <?php the_content(); ?>
    </div>

    and it will show all the content of the post without striping html tags.

    But with this edit if you can’t relish our further updates with new features. Updating the theme will cause your all edits dissappear.

    So better work making child theme if you can..
