Remove old analytics tag

Thanks for getting in touch. In order to find the existing Analytics snippets which you wish to remove have you checked the following:

• Your theme configuration options?
• Your theme files, in particular header.php and footer.php?
• Google Tag Manager?
• Other third party plugins with Analytics integration? (Not just the Yoast or Jetpack plugins – ie. Header & Footer insertion plugins or AMP plugins)

If you’d like to share your Site Health information privately using this form we may be able to help determine the source of the additional snippet, which you can then remove in order to allow Site Kit to insert your preferred Analytics property code.

Alternatively I can send you some troubleshooting steps to help determine the source of the snippet.

I have shared my Site Health information.

Thanks for sharing. I don’t see any Analytics specific plugins. Can you attempt the below, which would help indicate that the snippet is placed via your theme.

1. Login to your site from a Chrome browser incognito window
2. Install and activate the Health Check & Troubleshooting plugin.
3. Navigate to “Plugins > Health Check & Troubleshooting > Troubleshoot”. (This will temporarily deactivate other plugins and switch to a default theme – for you only, as a logged in user).
4. Check your sites source code, I suspect you won’t find a snippet placed
5. From back in your Health Check plugin click try activating your current theme from within troubleshooting mode before checking the source code once mode (Please refresh the page before checking)

If you’re unsure how to check your sites source code you can enter the below into the address bar of your screen:

When searching your source code you need to search for a UA- reference.

Thanks for the reply. I followed the steps mentioned up from 1 to 4.
I didnt get step 5.
In step 4, yes the snippet is not placed.
In step 5, I switched to my original theme and then checked the code source and found it placed.

Am I missing something?

In that case it sounds like the existing snippet has been inserted into your theme files. Are you comfortable checking the themes header.php file? You can do so from within your WordPress administrator panel (Appearance > Theme Editor > header.php)

If you remove the existing snippet you can then setup the Analytics module within Site Kit using your preferred Analytics property.

I checked the header.php. Nothing in there.
Where else?

Have you checked your other theme files? It’s possible it could be placed via a function also, or a theme configuration. I’ve checked your active theme and there are configuration options for inserting header scripts.

Thanks for the help man.

I found it on the < head > tag container for head elements.

I’ll delete it now.

The reason why I wanted to remove this tag from the website because the analytics property related to this tag is turning up data from the website where the snippet is inserted plus data from my other website in which I checked if the same snippet is inserted but I found out that the snippet is not inserted.

I checked in my analytics account>audience>technology>network>hostname, I found my two domains listed.

Any idea why could this happen?
