We have been using woocommerce for several years now and initially our store was very small and sold far fewer items.

However as we have grown we now need to start nesting the categories and assigning parent categories.

Unfortunately this now changes the URL structure to : SITENAME/PRODUCT-CATEGORY/PARENT-CATEGORY/CHILD-CATEGORY/

I am wondering if there is a way to only ever display the child category such as: SITENAME/PRODUCT-CATEGORY/CHILD-CATEGORY

    for all child categories?

  • Hi @adaml4458

    Thanks for reaching out!

I understand that you want to remove the parent category on the URL structure of your site.

You could change the Permalink Structure of your site by going to Settings > Permalinks > Product Permalinks.

Instead of the default selection, you could change to Shop base. The shop base will use the shop page name. An example would be: yourdomain.com/shop/product-name

    Hope this helps!

    Hi thanks for your reply.

I’m already using the shop base.

It is the category url not the product url I am referring to.

As the majority of my categories are main categories at the moment if I change to nesting the categories it now creates a new url as explained above where I would like the new child category to only be displayed in the url rather than

    Parent/child/ in the url

    Hi @adaml4458,

    Thanks for clarifying that.

In order to achieve your goal you could use an extension like the one below from the WooCommerce.com marketplace:

    Custom Permalinks for WooCommerce

If you have any pre-sales questions, please contact us at:

    https://woocommerce.com/contact-us/#sales-form

From there, click on the tab “I have a question about a specific extension or theme I’d like to purchase.” We will be able to help you further there.

Just so you know, we offer a 30-day refund policy so you can test out the extension with your requirements and make sure it works for you.

    Hope this helps.
