remove "Proudly powered by WordPress" from footer

  • Surely the idea of a good cms is that you can change most things without coding.

    The two ways that I have read for removing the advertisement from the bottom both involve coding: either you edit footer.php or you edit the css file. It is likely that these changes do not endure an update.

    Please can I appeal to the development team to make this basic change more accessible through the normal admin user interface?

    Or, please educate me (I am a novice) if there is already a way of doing this.
