Remove Required Email for Users

  • Hello.

    I am developing a secure wordpress site for a Search and rescue team to share documents with the local police force.

    So far, I have it set up that the blog cannot be used without a login. People with login info will either be members to add the documentation or police staff to access them.

    At the moment, I have a very basic system set up and i am migrating to wordpress. All the police staff already have a Username and Password, which i would want to move across when ready. However, there is no email associated with any police member, nor do i want there to be.

    What i would like to do is remove the email address field when signing up for the secure area. I will be doing all of the user mamangerment (adding, removing, resetting passwords etc.) and so see no need for a email address.

    I have searched the internet for an answer but no luck. Anyone able to help?

  • Hi Mike,

    You may be able to find a plugin that will already remove this field for you, or you could have one developed. I believe this would be the only way to turn off the field.

    Another course of action would be to simply ignore the field. Leave it there, but just don’t use it for anything.
