Remove Sidebar completely

Hey,

is it possible to remove the main sidebar from the complete blog to use the full width of the page?

Commenting-out the
<?php get_sidebar(); ?>
in the page.php doesn’t work.

I did a research, but didn’t found a solution in the existing topics.
