Remove social button from excerpt

    Try adding this to your theme’s functions.php file:

    remove_filter( 'the_excerpt', 'sharing_display', 19 );

    Hi, I have a very similar need… I just installed Recent Posts with Excerpts and love how it pulls the most recent post excerpt into my home page sidebar, but also pulls all the Simple Share icons that display on the the post page into the excerpt too. I tried adding the line that you advised warringtonscott to add into the functions.php file, but that had no effect. can you please suggest a way to keep these share icons out of the excerpt? thanks! susan

    p.s. i am using wordpress 3.8.1
