    Hello,
If using functionality to remove categories prefix, from the UX standpoint, I believe it’s wrong to let users create the same named post or a page if a category by that name exists. Of course, this is gracefully handled by returning the category page, but maybe you’re aware of this or have future plans for some checker? Any insights from your side are appreciated. Thank you.

    Hello @gneco

Thanks for reaching out about your category prefix.

By default, WordPress won’t allow the same slug to be shared by content types. If you have a page and a post (after removing the category prefix) with the same URL, the page takes priority, and the post has a 301 redirect to the page. As you rightly mentioned, a solution is to desist from using the Remove category prefix feature in the Yoast SEO plugin.

You may consider creating a feature request on GitHub if you believe this should be handled differently by the plugin.
