any help is appreciated! Or I don’t mind if I can’t fix this…if I could make my home page a template that would also work for me.

To remove the space before and after content is need to use custom css.

eg:

all pages:

body.page div.content.main-content{
padding-top: 0px;
padding-bottom: 0px;
}

a specific page:

body.page.page-id-14 div.content.main-content{
padding-top: 0px;
padding-bottom: 0px;
}

Add this code to Appearance > Customize > Others > Custom CSS
