remove /wordpress from urls

I wonder whether I need to edit the .htaccess file?

I need to get back to you about this – before I managed to get round to do the manip to give WordPress its own directory, some IT guy from my client’s company has done the following:

“I’ve managed to work out how to setup virtual hosts on Apache so that ‘localhost’ can be used on the server itself to get to the Wamp administrative pages using ‘c:\wamp\www’ as the root document directory but for ‘www.pensionspocketbook.com’ to use ‘c:\wamp\www\wordpress’ as root the document directory.”

Now, my WordPress settings still read –
>>> WordPress address (URL) : https://localhost/wordpress
>>> Site address (URL) : https://localhost/wordpress

I can see fine the holding page I put up at https://www.pensionspocketbook.com but when I try to see another page, e.g https://www.pensionspocketbook.com/about, I get the 404 error

I believe I need to change the WordPress settings and carry out the steps from point 7 (https://codex.www.ads-software.com/Giving_WordPress_Its_Own_Directory)

You just need to change your wordpress settings to remove the wordpress

This should then resolve the problem for you

I have very nervous to carry out that change since I messed up it once on another project… so I just need to replace

WordPress address (URL) : https://localhost/wordpress
Site address (URL) : https://localhost/wordpress

with

WordPress address (URL) : https://localhost
Site address (URL) : https://localhost

??

I tried to view the ‘about’ page without making the above changes and by using https://www.pensionspocketboox.com/about but got the 404 error page. I take it is normal as I have not changed the settings or is it not?

Also can I also change to

I get the 404 error when I try to see any page, do I therefore need to remove the /wordpress/ from the site address or also from the wordpress address. Is there anything else I should be aware/do?
