• Hello,

I performed a short search and had a difficult time locating a solution to this topic so forgive me if it’s been dealt with many times.

I’m helping a friend with a wordpress site. This is their URL… https://allthingselectricinc.net/

But the theme they want to use directs to https://allthingselectricinc.net/wp

The /wp address has the theme that needs to be modified and updated but I’m having a difficult time trying to figure out how to make the /wp address point to the normal URL. I can’t access the normal URL from the standard /wp-admin. I can only access it by /wp/wp-admin. I tried changing it in the dashboard but all that did was lock me out of the dashboard itself, so I had to go to the cPanel to fix it in order to be able to access the wordpress dashboard again.

If there’s anyone who can assist with this issue I would be very much appreciative.

    Thank you!

  • You have WordPress installed in the “wp” folder instead of the domains root folder. If using cPanel, try to change the domain names root directory to the wp folder.

Stranger and stranger. I just did as you suggested agentmoller001. I found this video here…
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZQL31otQroQ and I thought that was going to be it.

Now that the contents of my ‘wp’ folder are in the root folder, the ‘customize’ button for the theme (or any theme I active) just comes up with a blank screen with all of the normal menu bars on the left. However, when I go to the site https://allthingselectricinc.net/ it’s still directed towards the old/original site. I tried reinstalling wordpress after the move but that didn’t help either. So I’m not sure how to proceed at this point.

Try to clear your cache. The domains home page is cached until Sun, 23 Oct 2016 02:42:23 GMT (about one hour from post time).

You can also try to rename the .htaccess file temporally to .htaccess1. Remove any other rewrite rules that you added as well.

Found the problem for you I think. You need to remove the old index.html files from the sites root directory.

agentmoller001, you are truly going above and beyond. Thank you so much. I deleted the old index.html file and I can see the site again.

I realized the issue now is the fact that they were using a drag and drop courtesy template from iPage. I think I just need to figure out how to override that with the template I want to use.

Again, thank you so much. You’ve been a tremendous help, sir!
