• I want users at the contributor level to only have the “write” tab display in their admin menus. Currently the default is to show the write, manage, and comments tabs.

How do I alter the wp-admin/menu.php file to do this?

  • You might not have to alter anything. I don’t know of this will work or not, I’m using WPMU and the plugin has some compatibilty issues. Try using Role Manager https://www.wp-plugins-db.org/plugin/role-manager-2/

Just upload the plugin, activate it, then click on “Users” next to settings, then click on roles. Probably best to create a new “Contributer test” role to try it out. Good Luck!

Thanks for the idea, Courtney. I had tried role manager and managed to mess up a lot of the roles and capabilities, which required me to re-install WP to fix, because the changes are persistent.

I ought to be able to set the minimum permissions for these menu items in the menu.php file, but I can’t figure out how.
