• Hello,
I’ve managed to remove all the default sidebar widgets by dragging them out of the navigation menus tab in the widgets page, but the archive widget won’t seem to budge. it appears to be at the top of the list of ‘available widgets’ not being currently used, but whenever I visit my site, there it is.

Any suggestions on how to remove it?

    Thanks.

  • anything showing, when there are no active widgets, is possibly hardcoded as a placeholder in sidebar.php of your theme.

to ‘visually’ make an empty sidebar, simply drag an emty textwidget into the sidget area.

to ‘remove’ the sidebar, edit the respective template(s) and remove the get_sidebar() code.

then edit style.css to stretch the content over the available space.

thanks for your response. i do have some custom menus in the sidebar, and managed to remove the rest of the default widgets, but the archive widget is still there. i’ll check with the people that programmed my theme. maybe they have some advice.
