Removing author page from account

You can use this tool to generate robots.txt, then upload to your WordPress site root.

Add /author/ to the Restricted Directories.

Is there anyway to get rid of that page completely or can I only hide it with a robot.txt file?

That will hide it from Search Engines. To hide it from users, then this will work
