• Hi
    I have a triple problem:
    1. Wordfence does not let me enter my site because the password has, apparently been hacked.
    2. I cannot request a new password because I put my site in maintenance mode a while ago. And of course I cannot access it as admin because of (1) above.
    3. Long conversations with Wordfence and my host, Hostgator, seem to have established that my site has malware, and so Hostgator cannot even see WordPress (apparently. This is not clear)>

    My questions are:
    a) Can I delete all the content from my domain by deleting WordPress?
    b) If so, how do I do it?
    c) If I did do this, would all the malware also be deleted from the domain name, so that I could download a fresh copy of WordPress and build up a new site at that URL?
    Thanks very much
    Sue

I’ve moved this to Fixing WordPress where it belongs, this isn’t an Everything else WordPress topic.

Wordfence does not let me enter my site

Long conversations with Wordfence and my host, Hostgator

You really should stick with Wordfence for that conversation, they know what they are talking about.

If you really want to lose 100% of everything and start over, then ask your host to delete your host and create a new host for you. NOTE: That’s not something you can come back from, you will lose everything and have no data, no site, nothing. That’s an irrevocable act and you will lose your site until you can rebuild it from scratch.

Or, you can continue to work with Wordfence. They really are very adept at this. If you have to choose between your host or the Wordfence folk then I’d go with the Wordfence advice.

Hostgator, seem to have established that my site has malware, and so Hostgator cannot even see WordPress (apparently. This is not clear)>

There must be some kind of misunderstanding here. Your site is still accessible from the front end, so it’s impossible that your hosting provider can not see WP installation there.

May have been restored by the Host. If so, this will not fix *how* the site was attacked in the first place, therefore it is still vulnerable for a repeat attack.
