  • Sorry I can’t help you (yet).
I’m trying to accomplish the same thing myself.
I just thought you would like to know that some people do try to solve your problem(s), even if they don’t post. So don’t feel ignored.

I’ll post again when I find a solution. Please post again yourself if you figure this out first.

    Merry Christmas Everyone!

    That’s because of your “bumping”…
Most helpers when they come online go the the unanswered queue of topics, but you have successfully removed your thread from there by bumping it. With your 3 bumps in 24 hours it looked like a topic that got already 4 posts.

    lamisto,

Not to stat the obvious, but you are going to either do one of two things:
    1. Find a plugin that accomplishes this task for you or
    2. Start hacking some of the core files till you get the result you want

I manage a WordPress site that my company will soon use as a Knowledge Base for our customers. I’ve had to manually edit a lot of stuff in order to get the approval of our Marketing and Legal departments (also known and the 6th and 7th circles of hell around here). It can be done. It’s very time consuming if you are just starting out with WordPress, and it could drive you to drinking and regretting you ever stated the project in the first place. However, it’s worth it in the end.

My recommendation is to try to find a suitable plugin for you situation from the https://www.www.ads-software.com/extened area, because then you don’t have to worry about maintaining your own WordPress trunk that will get jacked up every time an update is released (because, let’s be honest, if you modify WordPress to do something it was not intended to do there is a cost). I was trying to accomplish this very thing, but was not able to use any plugins because they did not provide the “Look and Feel” the powers that be in my company wanted to have. But they are out there.

Here’s an outstanding Dashboard management/editor tool that works great on 2.6.2 (and previous versions). It’s not specific to subscribers, but it will remove components from the Dashboard that are unnecessary.

    Hope this helps!

I believe this plugin should do the trick for ya,

    Good luck with your site.

I actually have had the same issue over the past month. I only wanted subscribers to be able to edit their profile and not see the dashboard at all.

I found this plugin and seems to work fine with WordPress 2.6.2.

Just keep in mind that it also installs a widget and you must remove the built in wordpress login & register from your template and use the widget instead. A bonus is it adds a nice welcome message when they login as well.

i’ve installed the dashboard plugin and it works great!!! But how do I de-activate the built in WP login and register?
