I recently redesigned a client site but notice the seo title now has the ‘home’ in the title. I tried removing the slug but that removed the entire title. how do I revert back to the original seo title?

The page I need help with: [log in to see the link]

    Hello @datsla

Thanks for reaching out regarding your SEO title. I viewed the page source and here is what I see as the title: <title>Home - Associate Creative Director and writer | Samina Dagger</title>

Can you share a screenshot of what you have entered in the Yoast SEO plugin as the title for the homepage? You can use any image-sharing service like https://pasteboard.co/, https://snag.gy/, https://imgur.com/, https://snipboard.io/, or even upload the screenshot to your own website. Once you upload it to an image-sharing service, please share the link to the image here.

    Hi Maybellyne,

I restored a previously saved version of the site so it’s back to how it was before I attempted to remove ‘home’ from the title. the seo title should look like how it was prior to the design upgrade which is: Associate Creative Director and writer | Samina Dagger

and this is how it looks now (see screenshot)

    Hey @datsla,

Looking at your screenshot, it looks like your title is set to only use snippet variables, and it starts with the title variable. So this would mean it is taken from the actual post/page title where the Home is coming from. If you don’t see this in the title of your homepage, then maybe your theme or another plugin does things with the title specifically on your homepage.

If that is the case, please try changing your theme or temporarily disabling plugins to see when it is happening. You can do so by doing a conflict check so you don’t affect site visitors – more info here: https://yoast.com/help/how-to-check-for-plugin-conflicts/

    Hi Jeroen,
I followed the instructions – troubleshooting, disable plugins, etc – but still getting the word ‘home’ in the seo title. is there a way to remove this word without deleting the whole tile? thanks..

Hi, just following up on my post from 4 days ago. I attached the requested screen shot.. let me know if you have any suggestions… thanks!

    Hey @datsla,

Hmm, that doesn’t help narrow it down. The only thing I can think of is your homepage actually having “Home” in the title of that page, but you said at the beginning that wasn’t the case.

If you edit the title of your homepage not to use any snippet variables but just manually entering “Associate Creative Director and writer | Samina Dagger” – does it work then?

thanks..as advised I deleted the snippet variables and manually entered “Associate Creative Director and writer | Samina Dagger” in the title field. ‘home’ is no longer visible in WP edit mode but will have to check to see how it appears in search engine.

    Hey!

    Thank you for your reply.

I can confirm that checking the SEO title on your homepage no longer shows the word “Home”, so that’s good! You’ll have to wait until Google crawls your homepage again and sees the change. Just know that Google can rewrite titles or meta descriptions as they see fit. It’s not guaranteed that it will always show your suggestion.
