Removing HTML from Comments

    Hey I’m running a course site with my students on storytelling. I encourage them to use HTML in their comment replies, but it appears all users have HTML deleted except the admin (me).

    This happens with comments for moderation, when logged in as an author, or as a previous commentor. Only the logged in admin does not have HTML stripped from comments.

    Others posting text and HTML, will see the text in the posted comment, but not the HTML. And the comment log will leave the description, “Akismet cleared this comment.”

    Akismet is up-to-date running version 3.2 and I noticed that this was an issue noted in the 3.1 update release.

    Any thoughts, help is appreciated.

    Akismet doesn’t modify comments in any way, is the HTML really being stripped, or just interpreted in the browser? You should be able to edit the comment to see the raw source.

    Hey thanks for replying. It would surprise me if I’m on the wrong track, but it was my first thought. Here’s a particular example with screenshots to illustrate. In my test, the image tag was removed and the italics tag actually remained.

    By default, WordPress prevents non-admins from using most HTML tags when commenting. Allowed tags are:

    a, abbr, acronym, b, blockquote, cite, code, pre, del, em, i, q, strike, and strong

    Hey thanks for indulging me and pointing out the allowed tags. I edited the kses.php file and got it to work. Learned something today!
