Removing old version of techpress plugin

I updated via the wordpress plugin page from teachpress 5.0.17 to 6.1. Things seem to be working fine. The plugin page shows the 5.0.17 version inactive and new version available. The new 6.1 version shows up as a plugin and is active. I want to remove the old 5.0.17 plugin, when clicking on Delete I get a confirmation that teachpress and its data will be removed. I do not want to remove the 6.1 version in plugins/teachpress or the database data. Is there a safe way to remove the old plugin, thanks.
