Removing Register Link

Errrmm….Just disallow registering, and delete the file wp-register.php.
I know that’s not an answer, but it stops new people joining.

You can also find the link in the index.php file and delete it.

I never did understand why the login link in the sidebars wasn’t more intellegent. Like, if the user is logged in, shouldn’t it say “logout”?
