Hey, I would request the developer to still stick with the shortcodes because there is many other use cases other than pages & post. I use them in categories and store pages. This update has forced me to remember the table code & then manually put [table id=XX/] in the desired area.

Also, there are many theme like mine which doesn’t let users to use Gutenberg editor in some exclusive section/addition theme elements. I would appreciate if you can think about it.

The page I need help with: [log in to see the link]

Yes, there is a problem with using it on the pages of the store. It is highly desirable to return the short code, especially since it continues to work on old pages

I use Elementor to craft my content combined with Advanced Editor Tools.

I’ve never been a fan of the Guttenberg editor.

I also would like to maintain the use of short codes.

As they say, if it’s not broke, leave it be!!

As above, I don’t use Guttenburg blocks. I use StiteOrigin Pagebuilder with shortcodes. Please reinstate shortcodes as an option. New release implications not thought through.

    Hi @couponzania, @vaka2vaka, @jardry, and @cloudjarvis,

thanks for your post, and sorry for the trouble.

First: Shortcodes are not going anywhere! ?? They are still supported, and will continue to work, just as before!

Shortcodes like [table id=123 /] can still be used of course, but would need to be typed in directly.

Indeed, there is a change in the user interface, namely that Shortcodes are not explicitly shown anymore (in favor of the block for the block editor), if TablePress detects that the block editor is in principe usable on the site. If it’s not, the Shortcodes are still being shown.

This obviously means that the detection of whether blocks are used is not yet complete, for example when page builders like Elementor or SiteOrigin are used. I will definitely look into improving this detection, so that users of such site builders will continue to see the Shortcodes (for easy copy/paste then), and I’ll make this feature configurable with a filter hook.

In the mean time, please continue using Shortcodes (they will still be supported!) but type them in manually (or copy them from existing Shortcode that you have embedded).

Thanks again for all your feedback here! I really appreciate it!

    Best wishes,
    Tobias

Thanks Tobias, good response. Look forward to the shortcode available for easy cut and paste.

    Merry Christmas. Steve

@tobiasbg Understood. Still, the availability of Short code during creation helps a lot. Why don’t just add it. Thanks.

Yes, no short codes is a bad idea. We are using the “Classic Editor +” plugin to disable the Block Editor. I suspect there may be more permutations than can be detected.

    Backward compatibility!

    Thanks.

    Hi @edwperkins,

backward compatibility is given here, the Shortcode feature is working and not going away ?? I’ll just to have work around some edge cases as to the detection whether the Shortcode should be displayed (e.g. for copy/paste) or not.

Thanks for letting me know what plugin you are using!

    Regards,
    Tobias

    Hi TobiasBG.

I think your response is ignoring the request everyone is asking of you, and you sound non-commital on the request by saying: “I’ll just to have work around some edge cases as to the detection whether the Shortcode should be displayed (e.g. for copy/paste) or not.”

Yes, it is nice that the Shortcut feature is backward-compatible. That’s not what we are saying.

By telling us that you expect us to manually write the shortcut code every single time we need to, you are ruining everyone’s workflow. You don’t realize how often Tablepress is used. I am already at ID 857.

What we want is for you to restore the ability to copy the shortcut code from the ID field, so that we can paste it as we have always done. Please.

This “before & after” image sums up what we are asking you.

@medievaldragon Exactly, +1 vote & many votes, if you ignore this request you will loose a lot of customers – There are many other new plugins, these small features mean alot

    (@tobiasbg)

    Hi @medievaldragon, hi @couponzania,

sorry for the frustration and confusion that I have maybe caused here!

I did not mean to say that the “Shortcode” field is not coming back! In fact, it is now with TablePress 2.0.1, which I just released and which should be offered as an update on your site’s “Plugins” screen shortly! ??

What I meant to say with that “edge case” statement was about the detection of whether Site Builders (like Elementor and similar) or plugins like “Classic Editor” are active on a site. In that case, some description will now be different (for example, mentioning the block editor is then not needed). It was however my intention to bring the “Shortcode” field back for everyone, and that has happened with TablePress 2.0.1 now!

Please be assured that I always care about feedback from TablePress users!

I hope this helps ?? If there’s something unclear, please let me know!

Best wishes and all the best for 2023!
    Tobias

I just installed 2.0.1. The requested feature is back. Thanks. It’s a time-saver for those of us who use other plugins that do not have a Tablepress button in the toolbar. I usually copy/paste the Tablepress shortcode code inside Accordion Pro tables manually.
